Fighting The Great Equalizer

About Us
Depression targets anyone; it doesn't matter how old, how popular, how successful, how rich, how beautiful, or even how loved you are. It targets you regardless. Alyssa Nichols, the founder of Obtaining Freedom, discovered this when she learned this horrible mental illness has captured her family and even some of her best friends. How it left its defenseless victims on their knees at 2 a.m., sobbing and in pain, desperately desiring an escape, will never escape her memory. Additionally, how hard it was for her loved ones to get up every morning and get through the day when, meanwhile, their bodies feel heavy, their hearts feel numb, and their faces feel too stiff to smile, was devastating to witness. Their pain became her pain. When she saw how depression left them lifeless and hopeless, she knew she had to do something. The only thing that seemed to truly help her depressed loved ones was the relationship they each have with God. Thus, Obtaining Freedom, a religious non-profit organization was born. This organization exists to raise awareness about depression, research for a cure, and restore hope and joy to those affected through the unconditional love of Jesus Christ.

What We Do
Our organization is dedicated to funding for research about depression and a cure, raising awareness of this very serious mental illness, providing people who have depression but can't afford free treatment with free counseling and medicine, funding for National Defeat Depression Weekend (refer to "TAKE ACTION" for details), and giving free Bibles, while informing people of the source of true hope, Jesus Christ.

Why We Do It
Our goal is to find a cure and end depression while sharing the Gospel to give people a true sense of joy and peace.

"We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, 'I love God,' yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.": 1 John 4:19-20
